Preview: Durham v Liverpool

Durham and Liverpool will contest one of the games of the season in the FA Women’s Championship when the pair battle it out for top spot at Maiden Castle this afternoon.

Durham go into the game on 18 points and occupying first place in the table while Liverpool are just a point behind in second position. Both sides dropped points last weekend with Durham going down 3-1 at Crystal Palace and Liverpool being held to a goalless draw by Blackburn Rovers.

Durham will again be without forward Nicki Gears who is a long term absentee. Manager Lee Sanders has no other injury concerns to contend with but could look to make changes following that defeat at Crystal Palace a week ago.

Liverpool arrive in the North East unbeaten in nine games in all competitions and they are very much giving manager Matt Beard everything they have got to get back into the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Forward Leanne Kiernan has made a real impact since joining Liverpool in the summer and she has scored five goals in her last four league games. The Reds go into the game without Rylee Foster, Charlotte Wardlaw and Rianna Dean.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Durham and Liverpool kicks-off at noon with tickets available to purchase on the gate.
