Preview: Coventry United v Bristol City

Coventry United and Bristol City meet at the Butts Park Arena this afternoon as the two clubs get their respective seasons underway in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

After an exciting summer of football on the international stage which saw the Lionesses win the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, the Barclays Women’s Championship makes a long-awaited return this weekend with Coventry United and Bristol City’s clash being one of six matches taking place.

New Coventry United boss Lee Burch has signed virtually a brand new squad of players over the summer. Amongst the most impressive signings are defenders Jodie Bartle and Evie Gane and midfielders Merrick Will and Simian Jhamat. Bartle and Jhamat are both returning to the Warwickshire club for second spells.

Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith has also been busy in the summer transfer market making eight new additions to her squad. Fran Bentley and Emily Syme have both returned to the club during the close season while other impressive signings include defender Vicky Bruce and former Aston Villa forward Shania Hayles, a player who will be expected to hit the goal trail this season.

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between Coventry United and Bristol City kicks-off at 2.30pm. Tickets are available to buy on the day at the Butts Park Arena.
