Goalkeeper Laws determined to help Liverpool back to the FAWSL

Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper Rachael Laws says that she will do everything in her power to get the club back to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The 30-year-old Newcastle-born keeper, who returned to the Merseyside club last summer, says that she is determined to help her side to reach the best position possible during her second spell as a Liverpool player.

Laws made the comments when speaking in a recent LFC Foundation webinar ‘Conversations with Chris Kirkland: Women and Girls in Football’ to celebrate International Women’s Day 2021. The keeper was joined in the event by Liverpool teammate Jess Clarke, a player who has been at the club since 2017 after joining The Reds following the collapse of her former side Notts County.

Laws’ initial spell with Liverpool was back in 2013 as the club won the FA Women’s Super League title. The player moved to the club on loan from Sunderland and played nine games for The Reds. The club now sadly find themselves in the second tier of the women’s game and Laws says that she is determined to help the club bounce back to the top level.

“The big aim is to get Liverpool back where they belong in the WSL,” said Laws. “It is not just about the 11 on the pitch, it’s the whole squad, it is a team effort, so short term hopefully we can do that.

“If I can help get Liverpool promoted that’d be fantastic. If not, I will do the best while I am here.

“I hope to leave them in the best possible position, hopefully back in WSL.”

Liverpool are currently third in the FA Women’s Championship table and trail league leaders Leicester City by 10 points. Promotion this season is now virtually impossible for The Reds but Laws and her teammates will be keen to make up for lost time next season with the aim of hopefully enjoying a much more memorable year.
