Match preview: Chelsea are set to face Arsenal

One of the biggest games of the season takes place tomorrow night as Chelsea face Arsenal in a Barclays FA Women’s Super League London derby at Kingsmeadow.

It is no surprise that both teams will be desperate for a win after losing their respective matches at the weekend. Chelsea fell to a shock 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Kingsmeadow while Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at Meadow Park.

The last time which the two sides faced each other was in the reverse fixture back in November, a game which ended 1-1. Beth Mead opened the scoring four minutes before time but Chelsea levelled matters in fortunate circumstances thanks to an own goal from Gunners defender Lotte Wubben-Moy.

Despite being defeated at the weekend, both teams are still in good form. Chelsea are currently joint-top of the table alongside Manchester United while Arsenal are in fourth just behind Manchester City.

Chelsea forward Sam Kerr seems to have found her form at her new club after scoring her 11th goal at the weekend while Fran Kirby has scored eight goals and assisted four this season.

Arsenal are still able to put out a strong team to face Chelsea despite all of the injury problems within the squad with the likes of Jen Beattie, Steph Catley, Viktoria Schnaderbeck, Jordan Nobbs and Kim Little being ruled out of the game. Forward Vivianne Miedema is always a danger for Arsenal with the player being the highest goalscorer in the league with 12 goals and having provided two assists.

Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal is scheduled to kick-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
