Arsenal cruise into FA Cup Quarter finals with victory at Liverpool

Arsenal cruised into the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup with a 4-0 victory over Liverpool at Prenton Park on Sunday.

Liverpool recorded a record crowd of 1,851 at Prenton Park but sadly, they were unable to cause a major upset as three first half goals set opponents Arsenal on their way to a comprehensive victory.

Both teams looked strong early on, the game was very back and forth with neither side dominating the possession. Missy Bo Kearns fired a free-kick off target in the 11th minute but that was the closest that the hosts came in the early stages.

Arsenal soon started to put pressure on The Reds and Caitlin Foord was in the right place, at the right time, as a well-timed through ball from Rafaelle Souza made it easy for her to slot the ball home for the opening goal.

Liverpool were not deterred by their early setback and they had a chance to score themselves but Leanne Kiernan fired a shot towards goal that narrowly missed the target.

A moment of brilliance from Arsenal’s Katie McCabe then gave The Gunners a 2-0 lead. The ball fell to her on the edge of the box and she made no mistake in volleying her effort into the back of the net, leaving home keeper Rachael Laws a spectator.

Moments later, Foord doubled her goal tally to make it 3-0. The Australian international thumped home a stunning shot from 20 yards.

The Gunners continued to apply pressure in the second half and they looked hungry for another goal. Their fourth goal arrived just after the hour mark when Kim Little slotted the ball home when one-on-one with Laws.

Niamh Fahey then did well to prevent Arsenal substitute Tobin Heath from making it five as Jonas Eidevall’s side ended the game as 4-0 winners to progress to the last eight of the competition.

The Vitality Women’s FA Cup’s quarter-final draw takes place on Tuesday morning.
